The quickest way to reboot a Yealink desk phone is to press and hold the X key while the phone is idle, then press OK to confirm. Give it two or three minutes. Rebooting from the keypad is safer than pulling the cable: tugging at the power or network connector risks dropping the phone or damaging the port, and the keypad does exactly the same job.
You will not lose anything. On the systems we run, the phone fetches its configuration from the phone system every time it starts, so your extension, speed dials and line keys come back on their own.
Reboot from the keypad
On Yealink desk phones with navigation keys, such as the T53, T53W and T54W:
- Find the X key (the cancel key next to the navigation keys).
- With the phone idle, press and hold it until a prompt appears on the screen.
- Press the OK soft key below the screen to confirm.
- Wait for the phone to come back. It may reboot a second time within a minute or two: that is normal, it picked up newer configuration and restarted to apply it.
Touchscreen models without navigation keys, such as the T57W: press and hold the * key on the keypad while the phone is idle, then confirm on the screen.
From the menu instead: on the T54W and T57W, go to Menu > Basic > Reboot and confirm.
Reboot a Yealink phone from the web interface
This works on every Yealink phone, including the conference phones (CP920, CP960) that have no X key, and it is the way to reboot a phone you are not sitting in front of.
- Find the phone’s IP address. From the idle screen press Menu (or OK) and choose Status. The screen lists the IPv4 address.
- From a computer on the same network, type that address into your web browser’s address bar.
- Log in. The “user” account is enough for a reboot; if your phones are managed by Telnamix and you do not have a login, ask us.
- Open the Settings tab, then Upgrade.
- Click Reboot and confirm. The phone restarts and reloads its configuration.
Be careful on that Upgrade page: it also holds the factory reset. A reboot keeps your configuration; a factory reset wipes the phone back to defaults.
Conference phones and cordless phones
The CP920 and CP960 conference phones have no X key, so use the web interface above. The cordless CP930W can also simply be switched off and on again.
Rebooted and it still does not work?
If the screen says No Service or Account Unregistered after a reboot, the phone is usually fine and the problem is the path between it and the phone system. Our guide to a Yealink phone that says No Service walks through the next five checks, in the order we do them.
If the reason you rebooted was a configuration that will not update, a factory reset may be the next step. Talk to us first if Telnamix runs your phones on a hosted phone system: we can usually push the fix without one.
